“Nobody’s Girl” is a masterpiece.  It has a complexity in the lyric that is so artful -- Larry John McNally is one of my favorite writers ever. He's an undersung, underrated brilliant artist, and he's constantly putting out records and should be appreciated more than he is.- Bonnie Raitt

It was back in the 70's in Portland Maine when Andrew Kastner and Larry John McNally met and wrote their first song together, “Struttin On Sunday”. Soon after, Larry drove down to New Orleans and boldly walked the cassette into Alan Toussaint’s studio hoping the great R&B legend, Aaron Neville would record it. The dream never happened, or so they thought. 15 years later they discovered it had been recorded by Neville and released on an obscure English label on an album called,

"Seahorn Soulfarm".  Welcome to the music business!

Soon after Larry’s  adventures in New Orleans, they both moved to LA where together and individually they wrote songs that were recorded by Chaka Kahn, Nicolette Larson, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, Barry White, Joe Cocker, The Eagles, Don Henley, Jennifer Warnes, The Staple Singers and others.  Their partnership only lasted a few years as they went their separate ways, Andrew forming LA’s legendary soul band, Jack Mack and the Heart Attack while Larry made several solo records. They both continued to have very successful songwriting careers.

It wasn’t until 2018 that they got back together and now, for the first time in over three decades they are writing and performing together again as “The Groove Poets”. When they're not performing as a duo they team up with  some of LA’s top musicians. such as drummer Craig Pilo, whose credits include Edgar Winter, Jefferson Starship, Player, Maynard Ferguson, Frankie Valli and others.  Bassist Richard Grossman, who has played with Three Dog Night, Chuck Negron, Dave Mason and others. And keyboardist and vocalist Carlos Murguia who has worked with Billy Preston, Santana, Lady Gaga, Don Felder, Mary J Blige and many more.

The Groove Poets music is soulful, lyrical, catchy and poignant.  It is a mix of the best of what American music has to offer; Soul, Blues, New Orleans R&B, Funk and Folk. You will find it hard not to be swept up by their infectious and inspiring music.
